DENDROCHRONOLOGY

»Dendrochronology« is a method to determine the age of wood by measuring the distance of the annual rings, caused by different weather conditions. The results of the measurements are shown in a diagram, which is compared to a curve. The method can be explained easily. But using a professional measuring-station, it would take many years of practice to get results which are precise. For the multimedia-station in the museum of Lübben, we made five replicas of wood, in order to receive exact results. The visitor measures the distance of the year-rings with a ruler and draws a curve, while reading the instruction, shown on the screen, step by step. The program shows if the determined date is right or wrong.
